The S.O.U.L. Direction Philosophy

1. The source of our challenges AND their solutions are in us, NOT in other people or any outside source.

2. We are all born innately GOOD.  Most negative thinking, emotions, and habits are acquired and can be changed.

3. We can only change (or be helped to change) when we acknowledge the challenge, our role in the challenge, and we want to do something about it.

4. We must learn to recognize what we are doing or believing that is causing problems and get in touch with our feelings, especially those that we have not acknowledging.   All of the techniques recommended for disengaging from stress and negative habits are based on self-understanding and self-knowledge.

5. We are generally happier and more successful when we live in the present, rather than the past or future.  S.O.U.L. Direction emphasizing present feelings, attitudes, conflicts, etc., rather than endlessly discussing past failures and worries about the future.

6. The counselor-client relationship is a very important part of the growth process.  The minister promises to be involved, caring, understanding, respectful, confidential, and trusting of the client to know what is best for herself or himself.

7. When we are causing problems in our lives due to behavior, we must learn a new way of behaving.  It’s not enough to only remove the negative habit.  We must decide on a new habit to fill the void.  This change must go beyond Revelation to the Manifestation stage and move towards Realization.

8. S.O.U.L. Direction methods emphasize positive thinking, the concept that we are limited only by our own thinking, beliefs, and efforts.  Success takes work and effort and anyone who believes s/he can succeed is most likely to put out the effort needed to succeed.

9. S.O.U.L. Direction deals with the “whole person,” because intellect, understanding, feelings, emotions, thought process, physical body, and social relationships are inseparable parts of the whole person and affect these parts affect one another.  A consistent combination of approaches are generally used to meet the needs of the whole person.

10. Everyone can be happy, healthy, successful, and prosperous, regardless of past decisions or  current conditions.  These capabilities are within each person and S.O.U.L. Direction can help the person discover them.
